  • Essential functions: Survival, mother earth, nature, connection to family and ancestors.
  • Meridians: Urinary bladder, conception vessel, governing vessel, sushumna (the nadi or channel connecting root and crown chakras)
  • Areas of body: Whole pelvic girdle, sacral and L5 vertebrae, hips, legs, thighs, hamstrings, adductors, knees, ankles and feet; bones
  • Developmental stage: Womb to 6 months**
  • Developmental needs: Needs from conception to the time of our birth and earliest childhood

  • Essential functions: Sexuality, emotions, movement, energy of movement, senses, sensation and sensuality, experience of magic
  • Meridians: Kidney, the Ida and Pingala channels / nadis
  • Areas of body: Lower back, kidneys, adrenal glands, sex organs, bladder
  • Developmental stage: 6 -18 months**
  • Developmental needs: Needs as we develop senses and emotions

The Third Chakra: Sanskrit Manipura – Element Air, Yang (Male)

  • Essential functions: Power, will, conscious energy, mental activity
  • Meridians: Stomach-spleen, liver-gallbladder
  • Areas of body: Mid back, the digestive system, diaphragm, lower chest cavity, stomach and spleen, liver and gallbladder

  • Developmental needs: Environmental needs when we start to build a rational, intellectual-based understanding of our world, language, agency, the arrival of “I, me mine”

  • Location: Front sternum, to the right of the heart, back between the shoulder blades
  • Essential Functions: Relationships, Love – the center of balance, the point of integration of of lower chakras 1 – 3 and higher chakras 5 – 7
  • Meridians: Lung / large intestine, pericardium / triple heater, heart / small intestine
  • Areas of body: The skin, heart, lungs, upper chest, arms (outer upper arm, elbow joint, forearm, wrists, hands), between shoulder blades, shoulders
  • Developmental stage: 5 to 7 years**
  • Developmental needs: Our understanding of love, our initial indoctrination to morality, initial experience of us and them

  • Essential Functions: The question of “Truth”, clear and honest communication, the ability to communicate personal beliefs, emotions, feelings and needs through use of speech, writing or artistic creativity. Ideology and affiliations with us and them groups.
  • Meridians: No meridians associated with fifth chakra
  • Areas of body: Throat, mandible and jaw muscles
  • Developmental stage: (from approx age 7-8) late childhood to adolescence **
  • Developmental needs: Needs to explore beyond and challenge indoctrinated beliefs in the world
  • Integral third and fourth person perspective, Orange to Green

The Sixth Chakra: Sanskrit Ajna – Element Light

Intuition – Perception – Clarity – Creativity – Right View – Inner Guidance – Visualization – Siddhi Powers – Archetypal Realm

  • Location: Front, center point between eyebrows (the third eye), back, center point at back of the skull
  • Essential Functions: Intuition, imagination, connection to energies beyond our 3-D experience, energies connected to dead ancestors and family members, archetypal energies, energy transcending conventional / relative time and space, duality and ordinary life, the experience of merging with environment and transcending physical boundaries, turning ordinary beliefs upside down
  • Meridians: No meridians associated with the sixth chakra
  • Areas of body: Forehead, back of head, temples, eyes and ears
